For those looking for the therapeutic benefits of a CBD-infused product, but with the “high” sensation and potential benefits of THC, then Delta 8 THC products may be perfect for you.
There are more than 100 identified cannabinoids in cannabis and hemp plants. The most common is probably delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol aka Delta-9 THC. Often referred to as just THC, it is the psychoactive ingredient that gets you “high.” Delta-9 THC is the only cannabinoid that is illegal to sell and consume in Texas (and other states without a legal recreational market). It’s no wonder the demand for legal Delta-8 THC products extracted from hemp is growing.
Although these cannabinoids seem very similar, their location on carbon atoms in the cannabinoid organic sequence creates very different benefits. Delta-8 has the ability to create psychoactive effects, but the potency is much lower than Delta-9. Researchers determined in a 2016 study that Delta-8 may have 50-75% fewer potent psychotropic effects than Delta-9.
Studies have shown that Delta-8 THC may help relieve nausea, anxiety, pain and other symptoms resulting from cancer and cancer treatments. It may also stimulate a patient’s appetite undergoing chemotherapy.
Delta 8 THC has also shown potential benefits with focus and memory. A 1987 study discovered an increase of acetylcholine in the brain of mice with Delta-8. Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter known to help with learning and cognitive memory, is lower in Alzheimer’s patients, causing researchers to look deeper at Delta-8 for potential treatments or even a cure.
